Because the Mobility Hub combines different facilities (seating, cycle parking, electric car club access/parking spot), it can be used to change from one way of travelling to another. For example, you could cycle to the Hub and park your bike, and then drive off in a car club vehicle.

The process: how the Mobility Hub was implemented

The South Woodford Mobility Hub was first installed in September 2020, then closed between February and April 2021 for the second COVID-19 lockdown, and has been operating since then.

Redbridge Council has stated that the process of implementing the Mobility Hub has been/will be:

  • Following the non-statutory public consultation on the Mobility Hub in July 2020, the Council carried out an “Experimental” Traffic Management Order (TMO) consultation to make the Mobility Hub on George Lane a permanent installation, and install a car club parking bay with a dedicated on-street electric vehicle charge point.
  • The “Experimental” TMO provides residents/occupiers/businesses with the opportunity to give further feedback to the Council until the Order is made permanent in 6-18 months.
  • The TMO Notice was affixed to lamp columns/street furniture in the vicinity of the Mobility Hub, and copies were also sent to the affected frontages.
  • The Council advertised the Notice of Making in the local newspapers on 3rd December 2020, and the “Experimental” TMO came into operation on 10th December 2020.
  • We are now in the public consultation, period prior to the “Experimental” TMO being made permanent in 6-18 months.
  • The Council will take into consideration all representations and comments received regarding the Mobility Hub/TMO, which will be included in the decision report when the “Experimental” Order is made permanent.
